I am Derek Wautlet

Hello! My name is Derek Wautlet and I am a software developer from southern Wisconsin.

I have been developing my software and web development skills since 2017 when I began my Computer Science degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since then, I have been fortunate to have several internship and employment opportunities where I could further develop my skills. These opportunities consisted of software engineering and web application roles where I served companies ranging from small Midwestern startups to global consulting firms. I currently serve as Web Application Developer for TRC Global Mobility, a global relocation company.

Along with my professional experience, I further refine my technical skills throughout administration of my personal projects. As an avid fiction writer, I have used my software development skills to launch a creative writing website, Strangest Fiction, where users can upload their own short stories. Strangest Fiction has amassed over 100 users and has proudly published 3 anthologies since its inception in 2021. I have also developed multiple apps in my free time, including Trivia Freak, an AI powered trivia question generator built with React Native that is available on the App Store. I am also working on publishing a bingo app I have created for casual use with friends.

Outside of software development and fiction writing, my hobbies include reading, swimming, kayaking, hiking, birding, and just generally spending time outdoors enjoying nature.
